Sustainability | April 30, 2025

Kraków, Poland and Helmond, The Netherlands (April 30, 2025) – CANPACK has announced that the company is co-sponsoring a major exhibition of the work of trailblazing Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz (1930–2017) in North Brabant.
The exhibition runs from 18 April to 24 August 2025 with the artist’s intriguing and monumental works are on display at three sites across the region. A permanent installation of her largest work can be found in the Provinciehuis at Hertogenbosch, while the city’s Noordbrabants Museum and the TextielMuseum in nearby Tilburg are the main focus of this special event.
“Just like Magdalena Abakanowicz, CANPACK has proud Polish roots together with a global footprint. With one of our plants located in the North Brabant Region, such strong synergy facilitated our decision to sponsor this important cultural event.
Partnering with cultural institutions is one of the pillars of our CSR strategy. This exhibition, which weaves together strands of both local and international significance, is an ideal fit for CANPACK’s support,”– said Małgorzata Podrecka, VP CANPACK.
A Groundbreaking Artist
Magdalena Abakanowicz is increasingly celebrated as one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. She was one of the earliest instigators of what is now termed ‘installation art’.
Abakanowicz pioneered the idea of turning organic fibres into sculptural objects. Her trailblazing work helped to change the perception of tapestry and textile from that of a merely decorative craft into a new and particularly feminine form of artistic expression. Her extraordinary creations, known as ‘Abacans’, evoke biological structures that explore the inner connection between all living things, including the human body.
Engaging Communities Through Collaboration
“Magdalena Abakanowicz’s story is rooted in Poland but resonates far beyond. Together with CANPACK, we celebrate her legacy not just through artworks, but by engaging young people, employees, and communities in meaningful cultural exchanges,” said Jacqueline Grandjean, Director Het Noordbrabants Museum.
As Jochem Otten the Director of the Tilburg TextielMuseum puts it: “By designing this triptych together, we are able to present Magdalena Abakanowicz’s vast body of work in its entirety, approaching it from different perspectives.”
A special edition can has been designed and produced to commemorate the partnership behind this historic exhibition. In celebration of her work, it features a striking monochrome portrait of Magdalena with one of her textile installations, taken by the celebrated Polish arts photographer, Marek Holzman.
